Cheap classic mercury thermometers. Requires proper haz-mat disposal! Do not dispose of in trash! You must include in the comment section of your order a statement of agreement to this condition to purchase. 4.5" long. They are designed so that the full range of the 2-inch-long graduated scale is from 96 to 106 degrees, so these are not the sort of thermometers you would use to tell the temperature of a room, they are designed specifically for measuring the body temperature of higher mammals. They come sterile in a screw-top plastic tube. Single use. This means that the mercury doesn't go back down. So if it reaches 102 degrees and you let it cool to room temperature, it will still say 102 degrees. In other words, they record the highest temperature they are ever exposed to, and you get the actual temperature, not the temperature by the time you look at it as well. The downside is of course that you can't ever use it again (well, it isn't like you were going to use a rectal thermometer in more than one patient anyway), but the upside is that they're cheap and available in quantity and of course, that they record the peak temperature for as long as you need it available.
